Inspection before commissioning

New pressure vessels above a certain category, piping or installations with an allowable pressure of more than 0.5 bar must be inspected prior to commissioning (and meet the requirements of the European Pressure Equipment Directive PED (2014/68/EU). The directive applies to the design, manufacture and final inspection. When assembling CE marked components that are integrated into a functional whole, the directive applies to the integration assessment. The inspection before commissioning applies to new and existing pressure equipment that is installed after assembly or at new locations. The inspection is the starting point for periodic inspection in the usage phase. 

Who is responsible for the inspection of pressure equipment before commissioning?

As a user of pressure equipment you are required to inspect the equipment before first use. As an installation and maintenance company you can also have this inspection carried out on behalf of the user or owner. This can make the inspection process more efficient. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate is responsible for supervising the implementation of the inspection. View our accreditaties.

What does the inspection before commissioning entail?

The following aspects are checked during the inspection:

• Operation manual;
• EU conformity certificate or EC Declaration of Conformity;
• External condition;
• Support structure;
• Installation site;
• Safety of the pressure equipment.
