Steam boiler inspection

How often is a steam boiler inspection needed?

A periodic inspection period of at least once every two years applies for pressure equipment heated with fuel or in another way, such as a steam or hot water boiler. You must apply for the inspection before the expiry of the current inspection period.

What does the inspection entail?

• We check whether the required markings have been applied.
• We inspect the external condition for damage/defects.
• We inspect the internal condition on the smoke gas side and water gas side.
• We check the primary safety devices for their proper functioning and correct adjustment. These are usually: safety valves, maximum pressure switch, low water protection devices and/or flame protection.
• We test the emergency stop system.
• We look at the set-up and pay attention to the support and/or suspension, and the connections with the connecting pipework.
• We determine under which circumstances the installation can be operated. For steam boilers, this concerns aspects such as the method of supervision: fully monitored, limited monitoring or continuously unattended operation.

When the steam boiler is approved for commissioning, ECH issues the user a declaration of commissioning with a record sheet or a certificate of periodic inspection.
